Mr. Robert Eldred Smith, 88, of Torpedo died Tuesday, November 17, 2015  at home.
He was born in Wrightsville on February 11, 1927, the son of the late Emmett L. and Bessie (Clark) Smith. He served in the U.S. Army  during WWII from 1945 - 1946  in Italy and Austria and was retired from the Shipping Department at National Forge Company  in Irvine.  Previously, he was employed at Irwin Manufacturing in Garland for many years. He was married to  Betty Louise  (Rummell) Smith who preceded him in death.

He was a member of Garland Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the local AARP. For many years, he  supervised the Torpedo Hoof and Nail 4H club and also enjoyed hunting,  gardening and riding his tractor.   

Surviving are  4 children; his daughter;  Nancy E.  Morrison of Torpedo, PA; son, Charles (Deborah) R. Smith of Sheffield, PA; daughter, Priscilla (Robert) J. Rex of Lakeland, FL; son,  Daniel L. Smith of Torpedo, PA; 3 brothers,  Harold (Judy) Smith of Warren, PA., Kenneth (Donna) Smith of Jamestown, NY., Martin  (Janet) Smith of Youngsville, PA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren,  22 great grandchildren  and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Lee Smith; 5 brothers, Arden, Cary, Ivan, Freeman , and Gerald Smith; 5 sisters, Sally Johnson , Harriett Borton,  Mary Johnson, Alice Huff  and Jennie Hebner Loomis; and a son-in- law, Walt Edward Morrison.  

Calling hours will be held on  Thursday from 4 - 8 pm. at McKinney Funeral Homes in Youngsville where a  funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 20,  2015 with Rev. Timothy Olsen officiating. Full Military honors will follow in  Garland Methodist Cemtery.  The family suggests those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Garland Volunteer Fire Hall.  Friends and family may send flowers and econdolences at www.mckinneyfuneral.com

Bob was a good guy and a great story teller. Too many of them are leaving us too fast. I will miss his big hugs. God bless.

Dear Chuck,
I am so very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I am very glad I was able to meet him the last couple of years. He was a very good-natured man. It is never easy to let them go. You have my sincere condolences.
