Howard N. Rulander, 89, of Warren and Clarendon, and formerly of Davey Hill in Pittsfield, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital. Born March 26, 1933 on Davey Hill, he was the son of the late Fred and Bessie Chambers Rulander. Howard served his county in the United States Army in Alaska from 1954 – 1956 where he received the National Defense Service Metal, the Good Conduct Metal, and the Marksmanship Badge. He married Sally Jane Toner Rulander in Warren on July 3, 1965 who preceded him in death August 14, 1995. He was employed as a machinist for over 25 years at Rexnord Industries in Warren and also for over 10 years at Deluxe Metals, Warren. He and his wife owned and operated a cattle farm on Davey Hill for many years. Howard was talented in construction, building a home on Yankee Bush Road, Warren and making many improvements to his home on Davey Hill. He enjoyed playing Bocce thru the Senior Center at the Warren Mall, bowling on various leagues, and roller skating in Jamestown and Bradford. Howard loved visiting with his friends at Burger King in Warren and having his “Senior Pepsi” there. He enjoyed attending Clarendon Victory Baptist Church in Clarendon. Surviving are 2 children; a son, David H. Rulander of Warren; and a daughter, Helen J. Rulander of Clarendon; 3 brothers, Curt Rulander of Scandia, Fred Rulander of North Warren, and Lester Rulander of Davey Hill, Pittsfield; 2 grandsons, Jason Robert Rulander of Warren and Daniel J. Rulander of Clarendon; a granddaughter, Alesha; a special friend, Peggy Hoover of Warren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Rulander; 4 sisters, Lettie Rulander Anderson, Violet Rulander Thomas, Marie Rulander Johnson and Velma Rulander; and a special friend, Maxine Slack. A time of visitation will be held at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 258 Dalrymple Street, Pittsfield, PA 16340 on Wednesday, September 14th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the church on Thursday at 1 pm with Pastor Nate Fugate officiating. A graveside service will be held following the funeral service with full military honors.
