Walter F. Langford age 91 of Sugar Grove PA went home to be with the Lord at Rainbow Bridge on January 26, 2019, surrounded by his family.  He was born in Jamestown NY, August 12, 1927 to the late Ernest Langford and Etta Cunningham. He was predeceased by his wife Diane Peterson Langford of 52 years on October 26, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife Carolyn Boyland Langford & also his son Denny who died just before his 11th birthday. He is survived by his son Ernest Langford of Mechanicsville, NY, his daughter Lisa (Grant) Courson of Cassadaga, NY, Grandchildren, Chris (Maxx) Langford, Kate Langford, Jon Langford, Luke (Alyssa Luce) Courson with whom he lived, as they cared for him in his final days. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and his loyal companions Lady & Snug & Fud who never left his side.  Walter was a Chautauqua county resident most of his life retiring after 40+ years as a cement finisher in the Brick Layers union. He then moved to Sugar Grove, 30 years ago to enjoy his remaining years in what was formerly known as Forest Chapel. Besides his love for his family and grandchildren he looked forward to his hummingbirds returning year after year and was always sad to see them go. He enjoyed the senior center lunches and church lunches and the monthly bus trips and the many friends he made over the years. He was a member of the N-SSA (North- South Skirmish Association) for many years, where he enjoyed competition shooting and his love for the Civil War. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the Merchant Marines / United States Army in the 65th Combat Battalion where he served in the European & Pacific Theaters receiving the Bronze Arrowhead. He was a Life member at the Youngsville American Legion Post 658, the Mayville VFW Post 8647 and past Commander of that post, the Sugar Grove AmVets Post 50 where he loved their Thursday pizza & wing night. He was also a member of the War Vets Rec club, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The family would like to welcome friends for visitation from 12 - 2 pm on Friday, February 1, 2019  and a memorial service to follow at 2 pm. at the McKinney Funeral Home at 117 Main St. Sugar Grove.Flowers are gratefully declined but donations could be made in Walter's memory to Asera Care Hospice Erie, 12664 Rt19 Waterford PA 16441 who most lovingly and gracefully cared for him and his family in the last months of his life.
