David C. “DJ” Johnson, age 56, died at his home in Chandlers Valley on June 3, 2014. Born October 25, 1957 in Warren, PA, he was the youngest son of the late C. Leland and Ellen Johnson.  DJ graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1975 and continued to work on the family dairy farm. He lived in several places over the course of his life, working in the oil and gas industry.  He ultimately returned to his home and family, and spent the last years of his life in the place that he was happiest, the front porch of the farm house.

DJ will especially be remembered for his quiet generosity, his tenacious hold on life, and his predilection for adventure. Chandlers Valley will never be the same.

DJ enjoyed spending his time managing his business, working on cars and motorcycles,  and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. His love of travel took him around the world, and he made his mark in Brazil, Norway, and Hawaii, among other places.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Martensson, her husband Martin, and two granddaughters, Ronja and Milla Martensson of Honolulu, HI; his brother Carl Johnson of Parsonsburg, MD, nieces Jamie Riley and Heather Richardson, nephew Rick Friend and their families; brother John Johnson of Beachwood, OH, his wife Lucileia and their daughter Julia.  His circle of friends was also his family, and the people who were important to DJ will miss him dearly.

Friends will be received at the McKinney Funeral Home in Sugar Grove on Saturday, June 7 from 3:00-6:00.  A service will be held there on Sunday, with Fellowship following at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church.

The family suggests that those wishing to place memorials should do so with the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church building fund.

My favorite memory is that about our birthdays!!!!! "You always said I was older and I always said we were the same age. I know I was older but only by 2 weeks." Birthdays will never be the same now. RIP dear friend. You will be missed.

We are sorry for the loss of DJ. We didn't realize he was in such great pain until he sat and visited us only a week ago. He spoke of his future plans, making trips to Hawaii & to Brazil. He did so much for many people and was well liked by so many of our younger generation. He was like a dad to our great nephew Scotty, and he was like a big brother & a dear long time friend to my nephew Brian. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he now be at peace and out of pain.
