Lawrence "Larry" P. Grimes, 65, of  3941 Cowing Rd., Lakewood, New York passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Larry was born in Jamestown, New York on August 21, 1947, a son of Blanche (Ewer) Grimes Hodges, of Kennedy, New York and the late Howard Grimes.  He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and was retired from New England Motor Freights where he was a truck driver for many years.

Larry was a member  of the AM-VETS in Sugar Grove, the American Legion in Sugar Grove, Busti Mens Club, and theVietnam War Group in Falconer.  He loved to restore older  John Deer tractors.  He was an avid deer hunter and especially enjoyed "Sassie",  his beloved dalmation.

He was the husband of Marian (John) Grimes whom he married July 18, 1970 in Gerry, New York. 

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by:

Son Marty Grimes, of Jamestown, NY;
grandson Tylar Grimes, of Lakewood, NY;
Brother Howard (Debbie) Grimes, Jr., of Sinclairville, NY;
Brother Fred (Phyliss) Grimes, Jr., of Hudson, Florida;
Sister Dorothy (Carl) Hansen, of Kennedy, NY;
Brother Dwight Grimes, of Ohio.
Also surviving are 2 boys that Larry was very close to, Jeff Bernette and Chip Coil.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Grimes in 2004 and a niece, Alexandria Dawn  Grimes and several aunts and uncles. 

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm  at the Sugar Grove Branch of McKinney Fuuneral Homes and Cremation Services, Inc., 117 Main Street in Sugar Grove where a  funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 3rd.  Graveside services will follow in  Lottsville Cemetery where full military honors will be presented.

So sorry to hear about Larry. We grew up together and spent many wonderful times together with him and the family on the farm in Gerry. I remember riding the horses especially in the snow and sleeping upstairs at the farm freezing cold. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family.

I''m so sorry I''m not there. I hope you know how much Larry meant to me. It''s really hard and very frustrating not being there. My heart is there...
Larry and Howard were the fathers I never had. I will always remember the great times we had and the lessons learned.Gonna miss hearing Larry yell "Chipper"...
